I’ve had a couple of Harp owners write to me saying that Harp isn’t making any sound, and that tapping the Volume control in the upper-right corner only produces a message to the effect that the volume control isn’t available.
The solution to this is simply to turn off the Mute Switch, which on iPhones is located above the volume control buttons on the unit’s left side. When the Mute Switch is on, the speaker will not play sound, but the headphones always play sound regardless of the switch setting.
I just put Harp on both my Touch and my iPad. It worked fine on the Touch. On the iPad there was no sound, except through the earphones. (Other music programs were working properly.) I read this tip, but with the new operating system I have my side switch set to “lock screen” position rather than to “mute”. I flipped the switch several times but still no sound. I went back to system preferences, changed the switch to control mute, unmuted it and the sound worked. Then I went back to preferences, set the switch back to lock screen, and harp still plays, whatever the position of the switch. I assume this is a glitch caused by the system upgrade, but other new users may have the same problem.
Harp was muted when other apps on the iPad were not. I didn’t know that the lock rotate had been changed to mute as it was only harp that was affected. Thanks to your tip, I discovered the problem and harp now works alright. The side switch must have been moved when I slid iPad into it’s case.
Harp is a lovely app.
